I am getting error code 1722

I am getting error code 1722

2012-03-07 by richsul

Seems to be a remote procedure call RPS service unavailable. I have done quite a few things recommend to fix it but it still persists. When I go to administrative services it says it is active and not disabled.

I've uninstalled and re installed current and previous versions and rebooted a number of times.

Any ideas?

Thanks Dick Sullivan

I'm generally Mac oriented but I've done some Windows server work in the past.

Have you tried restarting the spooler service? Also, you might try reinstalling the printer that is having this issue.

Reboot, Check spooler service

or

Uninstall printer, reboot, reinstall printer, reboot, try printing.

You can check the services by following this post:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverprint/thread/8b95971d-d98f-4986-95b8-b2bbe46c5452/

I don't know if you've tried these steps as you weren't specific as to what steps you've taken to resolve the issue.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I checked out the link but it does not seem to apply to me as I am
not using a print server, at least I don't think so. I cannot get any
configuration stuff like profiles, printers etc. None of the drop downs
work. I get the error on boot up not when calling a printer. I also turned
off Norton's firewall.

Hi Dick,

Windows still runs printing off a service - you can start, stop, and restart the services from the services.msc application. I'm doing this all on my windows xp VM:

Go to Start -> Run -> type in services.msc and hit enter

You can find the print spooler in here and control it by clicking on it and selecting stop (if it's started) and restart from the left hand side of the window.

If this doesn't work, the print spooler might need to be re-installed:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverfiles/thread/6de177db-df34-4801-be93-1a8e4231f183

You might try booting off your windows install cd and see if you need to run a repair on the operating system, as well (this is much easier than completely reinstalling the OS).

Good luck and I hope this helps!

RE: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: I am getting error code 1722

2012-03-09 by richard Sullivan

Nick,

I'll try that. So far I have found out this:

If I disconnect my 3 gigs of external USB drives and reboot Windows 7 and
then run QTR it comes up ok.

I can then plug the hubs back in and qtr continues to work.

I have disabled all of my startup programs.

If I reboot with the drives connected and then disconnect them and run QTR
it gives me the error.

I'll try your suggestion as it is really a pain to have to reboot every time
you want to bring up QTR.

Thanks again.

Nick,

Restarting the print spooler did it.

Thanks a million!

Hey Dick,

Great news! Glad it worked.

If it hadn't worked, I would have suggested installing another USB card in your machine (possible if you're using a tower, not so much if you're on a laptop). Sounded like you had been crashing your USB BUS with too much plugged in to one port. If your printer is connected via USB, and if your BUS is crashed, this can affect your print spooler.

But, no need for surgery.

Cheers!
Nick

RE: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: that fixed the error 1722!!!!

2012-03-10 by richard Sullivan

Nick,

After a lot of struggle I finally fixed it. However, one caveat, it may have
been two problems interconnected.

Bottom line. I uninstalled all of the printers by deleting the registry
entries and reinstalled the printers. Voila, up and running. When I
discovered I was not allowed permission to remove a printer driver in the
control panel even though I had ADMIN perm. I got suspicious.

Seems the RPC call was to the printer drivers, not sure of that but this
finally did the fix.

Thanks for all your help.

"QuadtoneRip Front End has stopped working"

2012-03-12 by Richard Smallfield

Hi,
I'm using Vista and when I load an image into QTR 2.7, I get the
message: "QuadtoneRip Front End has stopped working".

I've reinstalled it and restarted my PC to no avail.

Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Thanks,
Richard

Maybe not the quite the same but I had a similar problem. After much teeth
gnashing etc, I finally found a site that suggested uninstalling all of my
printers by editing the registry and reinstalling them in the control panel.
The clue here is that QTR does some funny boogey with the printers when
loading itself and if one of them is corrupted- blooie!

I forgot the exact sequence in the registry but that should be a clue. If I
had to bet, it's a bad printer driver.

Thanks for the tip, Dick ... I had done a search but didn't find
anything, so will search again.

It's a 3800 printer, not that it's probably relevant.
