Dkc 850 upgrade

Dkc 850 upgrade

2012-07-24 by Wayne

Hi everyone, I have a dkc 850 box and it is great but, the other night I purchased the disklavier radio service and when I went to the d- radio option the language on my screen went to Japanese. I have no knowledge of the Japanese language unfortunately and cannot understand why this has happened. All other menu options and titles of songs are in English.
I cannot even check the my account options as these are in Japanese also. I was wondering if someone could give me some specific instructions on how to enter my I'd and password details without English if this makes sense.
I have tried entering my user I'd which I believe is my email address that I used to register on yamaha's site. I then entered my password but after that it strangely says submit in English. After I press submit it then goes to another lot of Japanese writing. When I scroll down it appears to have three options but once again these are in Japanese.
Quite strange.
I cannot use my subscription. It doesnot let me in. I am in need of help!!!!!!
Thanking you all in advance
Wayne

Hi Wayne,

I don’t know why the language changed from English to Japanese. But, to change the language back to English, do the following:

1)
Press the SYSTEM button.
2) Press RIGHT cursor button four times and press ENTER button.
3) Press YES button to select “English” and press ENTER button.
4) Press YES button to confirm.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bill, Thank you for your prompt reply. I have followed your instructions and the box still comes up in the d radio menus as Japanese. Unusually nothing else is in Japanese.
I noticed this as soon as the box asked for my user id and password. The language was Japanese but the id followed by brackets was in English. I scrolled down the menu and the submit word was English. The box then went to another page it is all Japanese.
I couldn't figure out whether I was accepted or not so I then went to radio channels and selected number 9 which is a subscription only channel. It went straight back to the Japanese request for my id and password. I cannot get past that.
It is also interesting to note that the d radio service menus before I subscribed were in English. Strange indeed.
Regards
Wayne

Also, check the language when you log onto the Piano radio portion of your account. There are separate language options for Yamaha radio. SJ

Hi Bill, Sorry for the delay, I must have missed this email.
In answer to your questions

N0 1: DKV 4D0931

My piano was purchased from Chris Marshall's piano World in Sydney Australia
I flew from Hobart To Sydney to look over the offer as I had first spotted
it in his store on the Internet because we have no one local that I know of.

I looked over the piano and paid $15,000 dollars to him. He told me my piano
was an E3 disklavier. My main reason for wanting the piano was to record and
to be honest I had something a little less expensive in mind.
He talked me into the e3 and up until now I have had no trouble at all and
have been impressed.

However, When I subscribed to the radio service and I struck this problem I
sent off an email to the D-Radio support people and they must have forwarded
the problem to Yamaha Australia.

I then received the following:

From: Techsupport_MPD@...
Date: 27/07/2012 9:02:54 AM
To: whitestarline123@...
Subject: Re: Yamaha Music Soft Radio
Hey Wayne,
I have been informed from my colleague who I believe you have spoken to that
this unit was purchased from an unauthorized Yamaha dealer,
Please contact the store of purchase for support.

Regards,
Alex Yabsley | Customer Support Specialist | Music & Audio Technology

Au.Yamaha.com YAMAHA MUSIC AUSTRALIA
Level 1, 99 Queensbridge Street
Southbank VIC 3006 Australia
P: 1300 739 390
F: +61 3 9696 4579
E: alexander_yabsley@...

I was horrified because up until contact with Yamaha Australia I had no idea
I had done anything wrong. I could not tell from his shop that it was
unauthorized. Chris Marshall told me the piano was cheap because a wealthy
customer had paid him $30,000 for the piano and after a few months his
daughter did not show interest so the piano was returned to the shop. This
was the reason given to me . He said the price was $15,000 because he had
other piano's coming in and because it was now considered second hand
therefore his price was exactly half of a new instrument.

I am extremely upset as you could imagine.

In answer to question 3: The disklavier radio complimentary access was
always in English. When I press the Internet button a menu appears with four
options.
Option no1:D-Radio
Option no2: My Account
Option no3: is in Japanese.
Option no 4: Update
When I press D-Radio everything is Japanese.

If I press My Account option everything is Japanese except the word ID and
submit.

If I press update everything is Japanese except for 3.20. Which I assume is
the DKV software version number.

All other menus and options on the box are in English.

It all starts as explained above.

I sat down to think about all this today and I thought if my piano was
unauthorized how could I subscribe to D Radio. Why didn't something come up
to say not authorized cannot accept Australian email address with DKC850. I
cant understand it or make any sense to it all. I bought this piano in good
faith from what I believed to be a proper Yamaha dealer as his store posters
and cards on his piano's stated. He even had the Yamaha authorized dealer
stickers on his office window!

I have since taken the matter up with consumer affairs but it wont help me
because he has disappeared to another country. No one knows where he is.

I am stuck with this piano. It is not possible to purchase another one.
I just have to hope that I can at least get the piano to play my
subscription service and be content with that.
Regards
Wayne

Hi Wayne
I am having a similar adventure than your withe the disklavier radio and my piano. In my case the piano is an used instrument bought in Italy recently (mpx1 about 10 yo which has the mkII xg system on it) . The instrument works fine and plays very nice... My nephew who went to Japan 2 monthe ago brought me back the DKC850 controller box (half the price than in France where I live); after having changed the main language of the unit to english I thought that was it. Until I decided to subscribe to the internet radio (4 days ago): since that I am stuck with the same issue you describe in your post: all is in japanese after D-RADIO is pressed and impossible to sign in it seems. I have written to musicsoft and yamaha uk for explanation or help in making it work but no answer yet... I searched the web to find something and your post is the only one where I see that you are dealing with the same issue. Did you find a solution ? If not I will send you one when I find one !
I think it must have to do with the internal network adress or web adress the unit is using to get in contact with the radio server there must be a different one for the "english" users because also the number of channels available are only 21 as opposed to the 28 actually offered at musicsoft...

Thanks for any insights you may have

Dkc 850 upgrade

Hi all! I recently upgraded a DKC55CDR to a DKC-850 on a C1 and am having the strangest problem. When playing the sample CD, it seems the song is playing in multiple keys as some of the counter melodies are way off. It also seems like it is not playing in the correct register of the piano. Upon making a sample recording playing C8 to A0 chromatically, the recording starts at a different place and plays a different chord than the C major I ended on. Any ideas??
Thanks!

Put the original control unit back on and do a chromatic scale record test and see if you have the same issue.

If you have a grand, the system is thinking it is an upright piano. If you have an upright, it is thinking it is a grand.

Let me know, then I can tell you what and where something needs to be changed.

Hey Bill, so this morning I recorded a chromatic scale from C8 to A0 with the dkc55 and had the same problem where it starts at a different register of the piano. What shall I do?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Michael,

This is good information. To correct the condition, I will need to walk you through Test Mode. In Test Mode, you will be able to change your piano type.

- Power up, holding the L and R buttons. (Now your are in Test Mode.)
- Press the YES button (screen should display: CONTROL Sheet
- Press the FAST FORWARD button (Now you should see a screen something like this):

V4.00 April 2000
55RCD | ENG | REC | GP | S | DB51

- On the screen above, GP is the Piano Type setting you will change. You didn't tell me if you have a grand or a vertical Disklavier, so I am not sure whether GP or UP will be displayed. Use the YES and NO buttons to change Piano Type. If I remember, you will have 3 or 4 options. Either change it from GP to UP, or UP to GP. Then power off and do another recording and see if all is OK. If not, then let me know exactly what Model of Disklavier you have.

-You should be in good shape. However, if you have a Grand Piano and it resorts back to Upright Piano again, then you may have another problem.

Let me know how it goes.

Hey Bill. So I did what you told me and it worked! Thanks so much. I have one more problem with the C1 though. It seems as if the speakers aren't working and the silent system is not working though the speakers nor the headphones too. Any ideas on that? The serial number is 5870096.
Thanks again for all your help,

Michael,

On the screen that you changed piano type, tell me what it displays for the bottom row.

Does your piano record?

It now reads v4.01 apr 27 2000
55RCD|ENG|Rec|GP| |DB51

It now records. The silent system is still not working, I can't hear anything from the speakers nor the headphones. On that thought, the speakers don't appear to be working and I can't hear any kind of gum or anything from them. Is it conceivable that they are shot?

Re: [disklavier] Dkc 850 upgrade

2015-12-22 by Bill Brandom

Michael,

Go back to the screen that you changed upright to grand and press the RECORD button. This will add an S between GP and DB51. Turn off the control unit, then back on. The Silent system should be restored. Test it by plugging in headphones, turn the volume knob up on the Silent control box, then play some keys on the piano. Are you hearing a digital piano coming through the headphones. If so, Silent mode is working.

Speakers - make sure your volume control knob on the amplifier is turned to full on. (See the Amplifier diagram in Chapter 2 of the Basic Operations manual.) Also, make sure the volume is all the way up on the front of the control unit. (See Chapter 6 of the same manual and find ADJUSTING THE VOLUME.) Make sure this is raised to full volume.

Can you hear any type of hum through the speakers?

Next, put the piano in Silent mode without the headphones plugged in and adjust the Silent/Quiet volume full on with the volume knob on the Silent control box. See Chapter 7 on the Silent system. Now try playing some keys on the piano. Do you hear a digital piano coming from the speakers? If yes, then speakers are working. If no, then you may have a fuse out in the Amplifier box or something worse.

Let me know.

Bill

Ok so that all worked. Silent system is working in both the headphones and through the speaker but I have one last problem that I hope will be simple.
The speaker does not seem to be playing the background accompaniment when it's supposed to. Everything else now works though and I thank you for that.

Ok. We are getting closer.

What software are you playing?

Is is PianoSoft Solo, PianoSoft Plus, or Pianosoft Plus Audio?

If it is solo, there is no accompany tracks.

There are two settings for volume through the speakers, depending on the type of software you have. One is PianoSoft Plus Audio (CD with real audio, setting is CD Master Balance). The other is PianoSoft Plus (floppy with synth backgrounds, setting is TG Master Balance.

See Chapter 6 of the basic manual for changing the balance of these two settings.

Bill

Re: [disklavier] Dkc 850 upgrade

So, I'm embarrassed to say that I forgot to plug the aux cables from the control unit to the power box. I just did however and I'm happy to say everything is officially working. Thank you so much for your time, Happy Holidays,
Michael

The speaker does not seem to be playing the background accompaniment when it's supposed to. Everything else now works though and I thank you for that.
Let me know if you have any other ideas.
