Mark IV PRC 4.01 problem with DKV 4.02? Elton John not looking good for me!

2013-01-26 by John

Hello,

I have a C2MarkIV and was hoping to participate in the Elton John event. Signed up online and got the remote live USB key good to go. One last step: make sure the software is up to date.

At first the PRC-100 Updater said I was current at 4.0.0. But the DKV needed an update, so I connected and it installed v4.02build 1 (20120906). After doing that and restarting, the PRC Updater reported that there was a v4.01. So I updated that, too.

Starting both the DKV and PRC from scratch, the PRC connects to the DKV okay but when the interface s/w starts it tells me the "PRC software is not compatible with the piano", and tells me to run the I/F Updater. But I'm already on PRC 4.01 so that ain't right.

I got a single call into Yamaha support before closing time and that yielded the suggestion that I hard-reset the PRC back to the 3.0 system loaded from an SD card. That worked fine, and I could connect to the DKV, but get the same incompatibility error when I run the interface, both at v3.0 and when it "successfully" updates to 4.01.

I was thinking I should also try to downgrade the DKV to the 400update.iso but I don't have my original CD and boot floppy from when I installed 4.0 a couple of years ago. I can burn a new CD but cannot make a boot floppy since the PRC Setup menu is inaccessible.

Any suggestions? Elton John starts in an hour!

Thanks in advance,
John

Don't worry about the remote. Is your piano playing when you see the keyboard being played on the screen between acts?

I have never run RemoteLive successfully. I was never made it past the "Sync Setting" on page 7 of the RemoteLive installation PDF since that requires access to the Setup menu. Clicking "Setup" crashes the app after delivering the incompatibility message and takes me to the I/F Updater screen.

I have no Internet access anymore. When I click "Internet" I get a big red X and Error Code 2001, telling me to restart everything.
BTW I can play stuff from the local DKV library no problem.

Before I did the updates I had net access and DKV Radio no problem.

Thanks,
John

Are the artists prior to Elton supposed to be playing through the Disklavier? So far no acoustic piano playback. My remote live is working as I can play any of the on demand performances.

John,

I am really sorry to hear about these problems. I imagine you have pressed the reset on your remote right? If not, remove the rear cover of your remote, remove the battery, and press the RESET button. Then replace the cover and slide the slide switch to normal operation. Then press the PLAY button. Two minutes later the control unit will be back up. If you have already done this and still nothing, the you are not going to be able to do RemoteLive tonight. You will need to contact Yamaha Piano Service again next week so these problems can get resolved.

I am so sorry that it isn't working for you tonight.

Only Elton is going to be playing RemoteLive.

However, between each act, you will see a small keyboard displayed on the screen and it will be played. Your piano should play when you see the keyboard being played.

Bravo !!! To Bill, Crew, and Yamaha!!

The show last night was absolutely breath taking, especially if you had a little quality audio gear connected.

I was shock to see my wife actually smile in joy as she sat amazed at what was going on right in the comfort of her own living room.

Great job Yamaha and thanks again Bill for all your help.

Re: [disklavier] Mark IV PRC 4.01 problem with DKV 4.02? Elton John not looking good for me!

Hi Bill, is Elton's performance archived anywhere? We are on the east coast and tried to make it to 2am, but had to give up during Michael MacDonald :-(

Thanks!

Thanks in advance,
John

Concur with all the comments. It was well worth staying up for!

Now when the neighbors come over, I can point to my piano and say, "Yes, that's the very piano that Elton John played in his recent Anaheim concert."

Thank you, thank you! Bill, Jim, and all of you at Yamaha!

We all felt Elton John's powerful presence at home. He really worked out and woke up the piano alive. I connected the E3 to a half decent spare home receiver with old Bose Accoustimass speakers. No equalization of any kind. What an amazing performance! The E3 was only at volume 3, lid half closed, and i played around with the receiver's volume control for perfect harmony with the piano. There's more room to bring the sound pressure level up if I had to and that's nice assurance knowing that it has that capability.

The choice of emcee was superb! The lineup of musicians was also great. It was a very, very enjoyable event. My family including in-laws all had a great wonderful time last night.

Thank you once again!

Agreed, this was pretty awesome showcase of artistry and technology.
I recognized the venue as the Aladdin theater at California Adventure at Disneyland in Anaheim. My only two beefs were that 1. Wish that we had live keyboard performances from a few of the other performers, particularly Dave Foster and Sarah McLachlan. and 2. Sir Elton John finally took the stage fairly late. We were CST - and my wife and daughter were too tired to stay up.
Other than that, the entire show was great. I took some cell-phone 720p video of his first two songs - and will be posting it on YouTube so that people can see what a marvel the technology is. It really was like having Sir Elton John right there in my foyer...
Bravo and Thanks Yamaha! It's a shame that the price (and thus the technology) is so far out of range for most people. I think that this is something that Yamaha should donate to more school music programs so that kids can see Remote Live piano performances from masters around the world. Great way to get grass-roots music education, and publicity for Yamaha and the advances they've made for music.

Only Elton is going to be playing RemoteLive.
However, between each act, you will see a small keyboard displayed on the screen and it will be played. Your piano should play when you see the keyboard being played.

Are the artists prior to Elton supposed to be playing through the Disklavier? So far no acoustic piano playback. My remote live is working as I can play any of the on demand performances.

Thanks,

John

At this time we have not yet gotten the rights for a re-broadcast or on-demand use of the Elton performance. Yamaha is working hard to get those rights. Yamaha will let you know if we get to broadcast it again.

Elton John

2014-03-13 by Bill Brandom

Good afternoon Disklavier folks,

Elton John has played Yamaha Pianos for many years. He travels with several 9’ CFIIIS Silent Pianos around the world. For a number of years Elton performed in Las Vegas on a very red 9’ Disklavier Grand piano in a show called The Red Piano. During these many years I have had the pleasure to work with Elton and his organization a number of times. The highlight of my work with Elton was with the set up and prep of the most amazing piano Yamaha has ever made for Elton - The Million Dollar Piano.

This CFIIIS Silent piano is a one-of-a-kind engineering marvel featuring more than 68 LED video screens, which display imagery to complement each of the show's iconic songs. The piano weighs in at nearly 3,200 pounds and is the brainchild of Elton and Yamaha Entertainment Group founder Chris Gero and was designed by Yamaha industrial designer Akie Hinokio. If you have a chance to see this show in Las Vegas, I recommend that you go see it. If you are not able to see the actual live show, you have a couple of opportunities to see the show when Elton John: The Million Dollar Piano comes to a cinema near you!

Produced and Directed in 2012 by Yamaha Entertainment Group, this VIP Las Vegas cinema experience features all of Elton's greatest hits from his legendary career including "Rocket Man," "Tiny Dancer," ";Your Song" and more. This will be shown in theaters across the United States on March 18th and March 26th. For much more information, visit: http://www.4wrd.it/MDP .

For showings in other countries, visit: http://www.cinemalive.com/index.php?p=view&id=103 .

The Million Dollar Piano is an amazing piano, played by Elton, in an incredible show. Make sure you see it. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by!

Donal,

No, he won't be traveling with the Million Dollar Piano. It is too heavy and a very difficult piano to move with the way the piano sits on, and is attached to, the two plexiglass prisms that each weigh 100s of pounds...

Ah, Sir Elton.....

I have his Ecstatic for Elton CD that I purchased from a Yamaha dealer and I enjoy having him play my piano.

Sir Elton performed last evening at the Ford Theater in Beaumont, Texas about 100 miles East of Houston. I did not go, but my daughter and one of my wife's nurses made the trip. The nurse has spent years in the music business as a manager and promoter, and she said this was far and away the best concert she had EVER attended. I see some fabulous photos on Facebook from friends who live in the area and attended.

I think the man pays attention to detail!
