Anyone heard the single "Viva 6581" from Tarmvred? It's great! Does he use Elektron gear? Okay, the SID can be reproduced with a C64 or QuadraSID software, but the drums sound pretty "Elektron" I think.

yeah! a cool thing, probly my fav by him ... i don't know tho, i've heard a lot more interesting and rocking chip-based stuff . . . so it seemed a little gimicky, but still real fun. but speaking of entirely rocking music, i really enjoyed t. raumschmiere's radio black out . ... this list is super active with users talking about features and bugs, but i havn't seen a lot of people sharing their music . . . is it mostly people on labels in here or what (with the price of the products i imagine it's mostly serious producers)? i just make music for fun and release it on the internet and cdr/tape labels all the time. anyone else? also, what kinds of music are people making with the monomachine? is it primarily IDM/techno/hiphop??? any classical/theory- oriented/experimental composers? are you using you monomachines and machinedrums as part of a full-fledged studio or as a stand-alone workstation? i like how elektron has created products so close to the huge old systems people were filling up rooms at universities with in the 60s, i can only imagine babit creaming himself over how musical and easy to use these things are ;D ok i feel like that's enough questions and things, looking forward to hearing from everyone! j.ordan --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, "davveknas" <davan839@s...> wrote:

I wouldn't call myself a professional musician, but it's certainly the only thing I do with my free time. I am not signed to a label, and don't want to be... I'm waiting to see how the P2P / online stores (iTunes, bleep.com) / etc shake out before sending demos in, as I'm of the belief that there may be better choices than getting with a label for independents to release their music soon. I'm pretty terrified at the sort of 'benefits' peers of mine have had to deal with who've been signed to labels who care about them but don't have the manpower / resources / ability / mind to combat the piracy happening to electronic musicians right now (this community is hit hardest, as so many of the indy electronic labels and musicians are living inches from the line as it is, financially, and the audience is largely folk who also have the convenience of Kazaa / SoulSeek / etc at their fingertips, baiting their ethics with convenient downloads. Sort of a pickle of a situation... small electronic labels have issues with distribution, so fans have problems finding albums, so they turn online to download them as they need to, unfortunately then the labels don't get money, which leads to not having resources to increase distribution... it's a very difficult time. Sorry to soap box / go on on this. It's something I've been thinking about and talking to folks about a lot lately. As for the style of music, I love theory... I use my elektron gear for everything I do. The machinedrum and monomachine are often my inspiration points... I always start there or on my modular. It's so easy to take a basic idea and play with it in many variations where only the ears can be trusted (no computer screen) using the Elektron gear that I despise starting work in the DAW now... even if everything ends up there for the 'real' composition work. As for styles... well, I'd hate to be forced to put a label on myself. Maybe another reason why I fear labels. ;-] Cheers, Damon

Now that I got the Monomachine, I realise how good the Machindrum must be. I MUST have it! Now I have my Mono controlling a Yamaha CS6x. I do the drums on the Mono for inspiration, but when it gets down to the mix, I replace them for Reason drums. I'm no professional. Mainly I do synthpop. Often it's been only instrumental, but now I've hooked up with a girl that is to sing on some tracks. Right now I'm making some songs for her to sing in, and writing lyrics. Perhaps I'll release an album on a small label, perhaps some hundred copies. But first I need to tame that Mono! She's (well, I!) always freaks out after a while! The sounds you can make are often too crazy for real mixes!

I'm glad that someone brought up the issue of sharing each other's music. I do think that it would be fun to hear what everyone is doing with elektron machines...or even just what people are thinking about who have bought these machines. I'm perfectly willing to compile a list of links and put it up at my web site on its own page (eyekhan.com/elektron) or on yahoo's (if that is possible-I don't know how to do that). If you are interested please email me off list, and if there is enough interest, I will start to put it together. Maybe it will lead to interesting collaborations? John ear@...

Tarmvred is nice. I have to hear that song now :). I have a machinedrum and I haven't finished a song yet...meh... I still haven't found the sound and style I feel most comfortable with...but I am stubborn and willing to make progress. Probably some kind of dark Electro blip with lyrics...I sing ok and I have a white cat so it should be just a matter of time before I finish a song :D

conrexrecords.com/scutopus for some of my MD/SID work. all links involve this setup (so far). i recommend the track "flirt" if you have the bandwidth. "bog tooth" from gangion rot is also good. the "live at balls to the wall" set is elektron gear + max/msp processing by my friend = pure insanity.

hi all, good to hear some responses!! i've only had a chance yet to check roonan's mp3z, nice stuff man! i understand they're just demos so i won't crit much, but the synthesis is really great and you've got great taste in pattern structure and track composition. the only thing i don't like is the echoed lady's voice twords the end of 003. it sounds like you're having fun w/ your machines, and i'm glad yorr tunez are a lot better than your site ;D ... are you using song mode for these? the local elektron rep guy says he uses almost exclusivly live mode on his md. conrex records??? is that a net label??? i havn't heard of it before, but looks good, leeching that shit ... i run a mailing list for net labels to post their releases 2 (netlabelreleases@yahoogroups.com mr d. (?) from boulder (sorry, internet is really slow right now) ... i'm very interested in how your performance comes out, looking forward to the mixdown! being a hardsid owner + gameboy producer right now, i feel kind of silly having interest in a very expensive machine that emulates another chip ... and comming from tracking i wonder if i'll feel cheezy with the experience of hacking at a 16stepper w/ knobs rather than my lines of lines . . . on the other hand, what attracts me so much to elektron gear is the sequencer and how tigtly it is tied with the sound generators. in my mind, that makes the monomachine a prime platform for a chip-minded composer .... 6 channels of monophonic polyphany sounds real good to me, i don't understand all this 24 voice talk, i'm used to milking chords with arpeg, love it or leave it!!! same goes for the person who said the monomachine sounds like a digital softsynth ... guess what, it is ;D ... DSP? heh. elektron gave plenty of outputs for you to run the thing through your ms20 filter and tube amps if u want to? i would rather have that sort of set up than some fragile tubes built into my 1000$ machine (esx1 :O ) hmm , so yeah, if i got a monomachine i'd probobly be using just that ... maybe synched to my gameboy and a controler kb of some sort (cz101 or bass station catching my eye right now, any one have other favortite for other portable/small midi synth/samplers? ;) ... ok! <3 j.ordan --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, "endlessnessisticman" <endlessnessisticman@y...> wrote:

I believe that's somewhat similar to what you're used to. but I don't know, I can never get a hold of the gameboy carts that allow music creation. I've heard great things about LSDJ but making a cart is a pain and I've heard mixed reviews of nanoloop so I've avoided that. I hope to play with them someday, though. Joe

joe, yeah, when i was reading the MD + MM manuals i thought that looked pretty cool! LSDj is what i use, and yeah cart writing is a bit of a bitch to get into. a lot less so now that GBA carts are readily avalible . . . and there has always been the demo of the program which is fully functional if you use it in an emulator (can get from www.littlesounddj.com) ... LSDj is actually my fav tracker ever, the song sequencing is a little different than the typical tracker list you describe ... it is a similar list 4 channels wide, and you can place parts of any length next to each other on each one (kind of like buzz tracker if anyone is familiar?) also i ment to ask roonan, are you using effects or mastering on the machines you list? again, very nice sounds ;D j.ordan > > I believe that's somewhat similar to what you're used to. but I don't

Ahem.. c'mon guys ...that's clearly a voice...a transposition derived from the empire state building elevator ( oct 2000 ) if you really want to know... on a sony dictaphone... I didn't feel it was necessary to include this fact but if people want to be more informed then ok . Everything on the site APART from this voice ...blah blah. Thanks for your comments.. marc

He had a Sidstation on his 2002 tour , but when I encountered him on his 2003 tour, he said that he was using Quadrasid because something was wrong with his Sidstation. It looked like the whole show was run from a laptop, but it was a wonderful performance anyway. [plug] Tarmvred also has a SID-heavy track on Mile 329's "don't touch my car!!" compilation, continuing his great tradition of mixing VGM and heavy, broken rhythm.... maybe just a little bit heavier and darker than his 6581 CD. This compilation also features excellent 8-bit material from Skincage and Isv (exploring the possibilities of circuit-bent casio keyboards in the artists' established song structures) and Naked Intruder (mixing atari 2600, NES 2A03, and Casio SK-1), as well as a healthy selection of heavily structured industrial music from veteran musicians and newcomers. Just $10 USD from http://www.mile329.org/ . There are a bunch of other Tarmvred compilation tracks with a lot of SID that I really like... the appearances on Force of Nature's "Dark Transmissions" and the "Zombie Commandos From Hell" soundtrack are great.
