Hello to members from germany!
I would like to place an order to MIS (clearbase for printing on Arches). As shipping cost are extremely high, I would like tro try participants from germany for a collective order.
Is anyone interested?
Please feel free to contact me. We could then communicate viea email or telephone outside Yahoo.
Thank you so far!

Would it not be more interesting to try ink media already available in the EU, more specific Germany?I have used the OCP Kodak optimizer version for mixing HP Vivera inks. Others have used the OCP Epson version for the same job on Epson printers.

Hello Ernst,
thank you for your reply.
Well, to make a long story short: I'm just a beginner and have only experimented with Paul Roark's Carbon-6 open source approach and the C6a base fluid. That worked very well on my Epson R220 with coated papers.
Now the next step: I intend to buy an R3000 and would like to print on Arches Water Color paper, again Paul Roark's recommendation. So I'd have to chenge to the C6c base fluid.
Is the OCP-Optimizer suited for my intention? Do you have any experiences with that?
Excuse for a newbies questions,
Gerd

I would stay away from the "blocks" of Arches. The one I tried had a low dmax and the edge had to be cut off to avoid printer damage.I prefer the Arches Hot Press Bright White (not really very bright and prints just like the standard) 140 lb. (300 gsm) in "full sheets" -- 22x30 inches (approximately). Helo. I am from Denmark. Have imported a few times and yes. Shipping has become more expensive. In Denmark there is a startup handling fee around 25 Euro. Plus VAT 25% and a few % in actual import duties. I Can make my own base AS i have the glycerol and the photo flo but I dont have the - 10% Dow Butoxytriglycol and the
- 1% Edwal LFNWondering If itbwould be possible to buy the other 2 ingrediens. The Butoxytriglycol has got its own name so I should be alle to buy it. But Edwal. I have done a lot of searching. No luck.I would like to import with others from germany - EU. I would also be interested in importing Butoxytriglycol and Edwal from over there. (They are less bulky). The octypussy stuff is interesting. I will try it out on my epson 1500 with eboni.Carsten

I can not comment on how the OCP + Eboni would behave in the printer and on the Arches Hot Press. This morning I mixed some Eboni that I still have with the OCP Kodak Gloss Optimizer that I have in a 1:5 ratio and applied it with a new, washed, brush on Velin Arches Blanc. Will measure this later to see what the Lab values of the paper and the patches are. I must have a Canson Arches sample book with the Hot Press somewhere so will try that one too. I taped the ink mix in a small container to the wall to see whether pigment settling happens, Paul's centrifuge method is more sophisticated but I can not reproduce that or give a meaning to first results without extensive trials. My suggestion to use OCP is because these questions about US ink imports to Europe are more often raised and I think we should do something about that here in Europe. OCP is a reliable source for some ingredients. The few distributors of Image Specialists inks or better MIS either are expensive or disappear as fast as they appear.

If I am reading this right, the Lab B dropped from 6.9 for the paper white to 2.1 for the 1:5 Eboni:OCP dilution, applied by a brush. With a similar dilution of Eboni with the generic base version C6c, I get 37, 1.6, 2.4 on a paper with a white reading of 95, 0.7, 2.7. (Spyder 3 color meter) I'm not sure I've ever seen a reduction of the Lab B in actual printing aside from the 100% black point. So, if you're actually seeing a cooling of the tone in an area aside from an area of very dense coverage, something interesting may be going on. I wonder what that OPC gloss optimizer has in it. The MIS version has a binder in it. That is what allows their non-coated pigments to stick to the paper. I believe the Epson gloss optimizer might have clear particles in it. Something that stays on top of the paper has to be in a gloss optimizer for it to do its job. So, the questions I would have about the OCP GO are: What is in it, and will that substance change with time and light exposure? Ernst, here's a link to Image Specialists global distributors; I see there's one in The Netherlands. I would drop them an email (or call) and ask about the ink's availability. Might be worth the effort.

Hello Ernst,
thank you for your reply.
I'm just a hobby-photographer searching for an alternative to a wet darkroom and the classic fibrebased silverprint way.
So I am fascinated by Pual's approach regarding longevity of the carbon-prints on a watercolor paper.
Do you think that one can adopt Paul's open-source ink-mixing and printing with European products? Are OCP products equal to e.g. MIS eboni (no dye additives, pure carbon)?
Could you sketch a way with european products?
Sorry for any inconvenience, but I don't have the technical know-how regarding inks, so I relied on Paul's know-how until know. And it worked for me from the start without any fuzz.
But maybe we should work together on an european way.
The dificulty for us hobbyists is to get the surfectants. Normally there is no way to order the stuff if you don't own a business. So Paul's 6d base is a great thing, but at least for me impossible to create.
Well, any proposals can help.
Thank you to all so far!

Hello Paul!
That's the component I found immediately at my local pharmacy. Photoflo I got at macodirekt.de, a german supplier for analog materials. So at least for me it was absolutely easy for me mixing the C-6a inks and I had a total and easy succes on my R220 almost 5 years ago.
But the following alterations are the problem, beginning with Edwal LFN and ending with the Tergitol.

Hello, I confirm what Ernst is saying. I have a R3000, and Ernst adviced me to mix HP Vivera PK with the OCP alternative. I left the original Epson MK ink cartridge in the printer (later on I replaced it with HP Vivera MK). Paul Roark helped me a lot with the QTR workflow, and I have created some profiles. Merely a combination of these inks with Canson papers (Rag Photographique, BFK Rives). The results are good. Best regards, Ben Albu On 27-12-2014 11:08 AM, Ernst Dinkla ernst.dinkla@... This is the label from the Arches I use:

while the paper is a warm one. Measured with a non-UV cut Eye One Pro."
If I am reading this right, the Lab B dropped from 6.9 for the paper white
to 2.1 for the 1:5 Eboni:OCP dilution, applied by a brush.
With a similar dilution of Eboni with the generic base version C6c, I get
37, 1.6, 2.4 on a paper with a white reading of 95, 0.7, 2.7. With an
older Calibration print the 18% (Eb6M) Eboni to total base + ink
concentration at the 75% patch measures 27, 1.1, 2.2. (Spyder 3 color
meter)
I'm not sure I've ever seen a reduction of the Lab B in actual printing
aside from the 100% black point. So, if you're actually seeing a cooling
of the tone in an area aside from an area of very dense coverage, something
interesting may be going on.
I wonder what that OPC gloss optimizer has in it. The MIS version has a
binder in it. That is what allows their non-coated pigments to stick to
the paper. I believe the Epson gloss optimizer might have clear particles
in it. Something that stays on top of the paper has to be in a gloss
optimizer for it to do its job. So, the questions I would have about the
OCP GO are: What is in it, and will that substance change with time and
light exposure?

Hello,
I confirm what Ernst is saying. I have a R3000, and Ernst adviced me to
mix HP Vivera PK with the OCP alternative.
I left the original Epson MK ink cartridge in the printer (later on I
replaced it with HP Vivera MK).
Paul Roark helped me a lot with the QTR workflow, and I have created
some profiles.
Merely a combination of these inks with Canson papers (Rag
Photographique, BFK Rives).
The results are good.
Best regards,
Ben Albu

The HP 3200 PK and grays are the best of the neutralized carbon (carbon cooled with color pigments) inks, in my view. As you can see from page 2 of http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Eboni-6.pdf , which has a chart comparing some delta-e values from http://www.aardenburg-imaging.com/ fade tests, the HP neutral inks edge out the Epson ABW approach, though the HP PK and grays are still not in the 100% carbon class, by quite a large margin.PaulOn Mon, Dec 29, 2014 at 1:16 AM, Ben Albu ben@... Paul,For the HP MK and possible MK dilutions we do not have information on their fade resistance. There are of course the MK black patches as measured in Aardenburg's Vivera pigment ink tests but that is all. I expect no difference between the HP MK and Eboni in black patches behaviour in time, the HP MK is not made neutral by HP and is slightly warmer than Eboni.

In my brief look at the HP MK, I found them warm, as you noted. They appeared to be carbon, which generally means they'd be very fade resistant.I have never tried to dilute the HP MK, but it would probably stay in suspension better than Eboni due to having to be smaller to be used in the lower viscosity thermal liquid medium. I suspect for someone who wants a very warm print, the HP MK would make a good pigment and print much the same as the Cone Carbon Sepia.PaulOn Tue, Dec 30, 2014 at 12:32 AM, Ernst Dinkla ernst.dinkla@... [DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint] <DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com> wrote:Paul,For the HP MK and possible MK dilutions we do not have information on their fade resistance. There are of course the MK black patches as measured in Aardenburg's Vivera pigment ink tests but that is all. I expect no difference between the HP MK and Eboni in black patches behaviour in time, the HP MK is not made neutral by HP and is slightly warmer than Eboni.

Paul Roark helped me a lot with the QTR workflow, and I have created

Merely a combination of these inks with Canson papers (Rag

The results are good.
