MIS Inks QC?

MIS Inks QC?

2005-02-18 by michael332720

Have any of you good folks who use MIS inks run into Quality control
issues?
I have just started to use them and was getting some great results in
with my Epson 2000P. I am using their pre filed cartridges of the
UTFSN ink set. When they work I get a very nice neutral toned B&W
print. They really look good. But I just got my second bad ink
cartridge from them. The first one leaked and was unrecognizable to
my printer. So I got in touch with there customer service dept and
they said ship it back and we will send you a new one. Well ok but
then I am out the cost of shipping it back. Well the six bucks would
not break my bank so I did. In the mean time I ordered a second
cartridge of the five shades of gray to replace my color cartridge.
Well I put it in my printer and I am told that the cartridge is
empty. At this point I am a very unhappy camper.

I called a friend who refills her ink cartridges and get her to bring
me her chip resetter. Well I reset the chip and put it back into my
printer. It still says that it is empty. I can put my Epson ink back
in and the printer is happy.

And of course all this happens after MIS is closed for the day. So I
left them a message and I hope to hear back from them first thing in
the morning.

So my question is have any of you had these same problems or is it
just a run of bad luck. I bought a new hard drive on Wednesday and it
was bad?Go figure.

Thanks for any input you good folks might be able to give me.

MIS is a small company making some innovative ink jet products. Which
is a nice way of saying their QC is certainly not what you see from a
Oriental mega-manufacturer.

In return you get some great products unmatched by the printer
manufacturers and some very friendly helpful people to talk to when
you have problems. They probably will not call you back first thing in
the morning. but you can call them back.

I use only their inks and carts and I'm far from famous or well known.
But since I am a regular customer they recognize me and just tell me
to throw the defective product away and they ship a replacement
immediately. I think their customer service is absolutely first class.
You're not just one of ten million customers like you are to Epson.

But, their website has the answers to 99% of the questions one could
ask. If you're asking the other 1%, they'll spend as much time as it
takes to solve your problem. But if you're taking up the time of one
of the three employees with a problem you could have easily solved by
just checking their website, they may just point you there so they can
go back to work.

I have an ongoing issue with some UT-FS prefilled carts for my 1160 which I
mentioned here a few days ago. They worked for a short time but are now
feigning empty despite having only produced the equivalent of 3 or 4 A4
prints. I'm in touch with MIS and we'll see what transpires. They don't
look empty.

When they worked the results were excellent so I want to persevere with
them but I've had unbelievable hassles restoring my 1160 to a full nozzle
check using standard inks after having had the MIS carts in.

I'll echo others here regarding their service for UK customers though - the
carts arrived within a week and there was no duty or VAT to pay.

Richard

Gentlemen from the UK PLEASE!!!! If you carry on mentioning the work round
on VAT and duty, eventually the Inland Revenue will become aware of what is
going on and stop the practice so do us all a favour and STOP talking about
it on here.

Yes. I used the VM inks in an 1160 and UT2 inks in a 1280 over a period of
about two years. The QC problems I had ranged from ink spattering out of
cartridges to chips improperly placed or otherwise defective to no toner
being in some of the channels to my biggest and final problem which was an
inability to make a neutral black and white prints (using UT2 on the 1280 to
which I had switched from VM and an 1160 in unsuccessful effort to cure the
problem) because everything had a magenta tint to it.

At that point I gave up and switched to QTR with UC inks in a 2200 with
which I've been extremely happy. The people at MIS were very nice, you could
always talk to a human being, they always replaced bad cartridges with a
good one without any hassle (I"m surprised they asked you to return the
defective cartridges, they always just sent me replacements without
requiring a return), and in every respect other than QC they were great
people to deal with plus Paul Roark was very helpful and a great resource.
But I couldn't accept the magenta prints.

I later read some messages here indicating that there had been some problems
with a large batch of inks they bought and I guess that was the cause of my
final problem. But by then QTR had come along so I haven't revisited MIS.
Despite this, I'd recommend MIS and the Roark curves to anyone who for
whatever reason can't or doesn't want to use QTR, on the assumption that the
bad ink problem (assuming it was the cause of my problem, which I think it
was) has been fixed. When things worked they worked great and with their low
cost and easy exchange policy I could put up with the occasional defective
cartridge, I just couldn't handle the magenta prints I got at the end.

2 months ago I bought 2 sets of Mis UT7 cartridges
for my 2200.I did so after checking with many exprets on this site
and ohers that there were no clogging issues with those inks and was
told there were no. For the first 2 weeks ,I spent so much time
paper and ink trying to fix the clogs that I ended up throwing my
used set and a brand new unopened set in the garbage in TOTAL
DISGUST! I have no clue how anyone can recommend those inks unless
you are a clog maniac! The cassettes are poorly constructed and they
leaked all over my desk. Since I started using QTR,I have renewed
interest in an ISOLATED ebony black but I wish someone would tell me
how to PREVENT/TREAT those clogs

I'm glad that they're friendly and helpful in fixing problems (once
you get their attention), but it would be much better if there weren't
so many problems.

When I had a leaky cart, they replaced it (after I asked a couple of
times). Now I'm finding that they filled a UT2 cart with LM that's
darker than it should be. This is apparently not an isolated mistake.
I've followed their problem resolution procedures, but I haven't got
any more than an automated receipt acknowledgement.

Ordered some UT2 ink in a cartridge from MIS and it was misloaded.
Trashed it and didn't bother to contact MIS, although I understand
their customer service is good. My strange behavior was a reaction to
the terrible experience I had that lasted years trying to deal with
Pieziography and InkJet Mall before I finally gave up. I know its not
fair to transfer that experience onto MIS but I just can't deal with
it anymore. It takes too much time and effort -- its kind of like
when someone hits your car and he's insured. Its not the money, its
the time and effort required to get your car fixed that's the pain.

I'm getting great results with a RIP using OEM inks and haven't had a
problem with an Epson cartridge yet. Time is money.

I love their inks, but unfortunately, 2 out of the three times I ordered
sets of ink, 1 or 2 of the inks were the wrong color,- I also got the bad
LM. I ended up wasting a tremendous amount of time trying to track it down-
it does not appear that they do densitometer tests of the ink batches to
verify tone. I regret to say that I would be very hesitant to order again.
This is something they absolutely need to fix.
