2400 paper feed

2400 paper feed

2007-06-29 by Lynne Siler

I've been reading posts on the 3800 paper feed problems and I'm having the same thing
happen on my new R2400 printer. I printed about 6 prints easily and now I can't ge it to
accept a sheet of velvet fine art. It's making me crazy - any tips on procedure? I"ve been
deleting the print job and starting over, as just pressing the roll paper button to back out the
paper doesn't solve the problem - just repeats. Thanks,

This may not make you feel any better, but I've personally see six 2400 printers die
because they wouldn't feed properly, including one of my own, which I had to take to the
dump because of that problem. It may be more common than this, but I'd either send it
back to Epson or get a 3800 (which although it has similar problems, I've not known or
seen one die (I have 2) because of it. Mine got so it wouldn't load in any slot!!!

I had a similar problem with Hahnemuhle photo rag and
my 2200. Run a few pieces of normal paper
through...then use the manual feed slot in future. :-)

I have experienced the same problem. I believe that I have developed a
procedure which seems to work. I use the top feed and only insert one paper at a
time whatever size (such as H Photo rag 308). I place the paper in the feed
towards the front and then apply gentle pressure to the top of the sheet as an
assist as the printer kicks in to print. Once the printer grabs the paper,
don't apply any further pressure. I gave up on letting the printer print
without this assst.Hope this helps with your problem.

THanks for your responses. I'm able to get the velvet 8x11 to load,
but not the super B (13x19). The problem with using the top sheet
feeder, unless I'm missing something, is that if you choose that in
the page setup, the choice for velvet paper is grayed out, so you
can't choose the advanced settings in the printer settings menu. Is
there a work around this? I was really excited to see the first small
prints - much more neutral B&W image and a good color match(compared
the the Epson 2200) just using the epson profiles, but this paper
feeder is a nightmare!

Robert and Laurence's suggestion work very well for me also with my 2400. I use the sheet feeder, 1 sheet at a time, and the thick paper setting for my photo papers. I do not experience any problems with ink smearing on that setting or less sharp photos. My photo papers range from eem to 300# paper. If I use the regular paper thickness setting I have a lot of problems loading the paper.

Dear All,
I was plagued with this feed problem with my 2200 even while testing
it for Epson,
and later with the 2400. Pressure on the paper until it grabbed,
cardboard spacers behind
the printing paper, and a few other things didn't help. But one day
my son, who is a
Mac techie (although not a print person), suggested cleaning the
little rubber wheel
on the right side, with alchohol. (looking at the printer from the
front, into the top paper feed cavity).
I actually prefer starting a process with water before moving to more
powerful solvents, so
I wet a piece of old towel and wiped that rubber wheel, as thoroughly
as possible -- you can rotate
it one direction with the power off. That was four or five months
ago, and the 2400 hasn't missed
a paper feed since! It seems that the papers, particularly the matte
art papers deposit paper dust
on the roller so it can't feed. It was a simple solution which
finally made me realize what that little
tool epson throws in with the printers is for --(that white plastic
with a piece of foam attached at one end)
I never found instructions for it, but I think the damp rag is a
better way to go.

I can't attest that all your feed problems can be solved so easily,
but it's certainly worth a try.

Re: 2400 paper feed - and new problem

2007-06-30 by Lynne Siler

Thank you for that tip - I'm having a little better luck with the single feed top loader - I
will try your technique with the back feeder.

Now I have another problem. I'm thrilled with the color match I'm getting from this printer
with the Epson profiles, however, the B&W's are printing very strangely. I'm using
Advanced Black and White mode and the highest quality print settting, and high speed is
unchecked, but the images are really light and high contrast. The shadows are blocked up
- the mid tones are all too light.

Does anyone have any tips for B&W printing?

Many thanks,
Lynne Siler

Lynne -
All I can think of is, that perhaps you missed turning off the color
management -
You'll find in in the same pull-down menu, just below the "print
settings".
