Has anyone one this vendor for 2400 empty carts? Are they reliable? Thank you. Shilesh http://cgi.ebay.com/Refillable-Ink-Cartridges-Epson-R2400-T0591- T0599_W0QQitemZ220164787773QQihZ012QQcategoryZ16200QQtcZphotoQQcmdZView Item

I used this type cart in my 2400 and they leaked badly. I think the fit is not that good and they didn't seal properly. There are other suppliers on/off ebay selling the same carts, which I assume all come from China. I don't think I bought them from this specific supplier. My 2400 died last year and I now use an 1800 as a replacement. Carl

Carl I gather that there are a number of suppliers in China - are you sure that this is the same one as yours? How recently was this? I'm also in the market for some refillables for a 2400. Are there any online suppliers that people can positively recommend? (I realise that a post like this may attract a number of warnings from people who have had bad experiences. I've read the warnings and on this occasion would like to hear from those, if any, with positive recommendations.) Not really sure Clayton. I got the all lights flashing syndrome and warning that the printer needs to be serviced, but nothing specific. There are no simple key sequences (as with the older models like the 1270) for re-setting and no Mac recovery software that I could find to get it going again. Regards, Carl

That is true and I don't know that this is the same cartridge - they just look the same. This was last year that I purchased the carts. I use refillable carts from MIS for my 1800 that work fine. I purchased some extras a couple of months ago, but I don't know if they are still selling them. Carl

My understanding was that all these refillable carts come from China (hence Epson using trade sanctions as a lever). Thus it is something of a lottery. Even for MIS (as some of the complaints on this forum indicate). And who knows if I buy from the same supplier as you, whether or not the supplier sources from a different manufacturer? Again a lottery for all. The advantage of buying yourself via ebay is that at least they're cheap, and I can justify buying more to maximise my odds. If that fails, I guess there is refilling OEM carts using these new nipples from R-Jet Tek. Re your dead R2400, my understanding is that it's fairly inexpensive to buy a service manual online. Might be a worthwhile investment to diagnose the problem. F_P --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, Carl Schofield <list@...> wrote:

Or look into a CIS. I just bought one from Ink Republic. I'm not sure if the trade ruling effects the dampers they use. When I get it installed, I'll report back.

Fortunately I've been through it before with another R220. Very possibly could be waste pad registering as full--both red lights flashing, something on the order of Internal parts worn out--must be serviced. I borrow a Windoze laptop, dowload the Russian utility (SSC) , load the printer driver onto the borrowed PC and use the Protection Counter Reset utility in SSC to reset the waste counter. My experience has been that lots of cleaning cycles will set off the wastepad shut down long before it's necessary. I looked at the wastepad on the printer that shut down today and I would say it was less than 1/4 full. The utility reported 20k whatever cycles out of a maximum of 46k allowed. Borrowing the PC (and even worse, having to use it, was a pain but it does the trick;) If you have an intel mac it might be worth a copy of windoze 98 just to have the SSC utility around.

Thanks for the tip Robert. I'll see if the 2400 can be revived with this technique. Carl

Ok, I am new to this group, but for the life of me I can not understand that if you want quality images from your better Epson printers, especially those that take the K inks why anyone would want to save a few bucks buying refillable inks if you expect quality images and no problems coming from your Epson photo printers!! There is no way I would subject my r2400 or any other Epson printer for that matter to 3rd party inks. If I may interject: the early versions of SSC required Win 98, but the current one runs just fine on XP-I recently re-set my R1800 that way. You can also use the R2400 Adjustment program, which you don't even have to install, it doesn't go through the Win registry. Richard In my first post in this thread, I said "(I realise that a post like this may attract a number of warnings from people who have had bad experiences. I've read the warnings and on this occasion would like to hear from those, if any, with positive recommendations.)" I answer your question, though, because (i) if you do enough printing it's not just "a few bucks", and (ii) It's my protest against Epson's pricing, marketing and enforcement policies. I remain interesting in hearing *positive* recommendations about either (a) refillable cart sources (not CIS), and/or (b) 3rd party K3 (i.e. colour) replacement inks that people are happy with in the R2400. There are enough threads here debating OEM vs 3rd party. Please don't crowd out my request for positive recommendations by turning this into another one. I'm thinking about trying it and wondering about the re-filling details. Do you just pour from the four-ounce bottles into the respective Cone carts without relocating them? Or using a funnel? I'm a little worried about how I'd control the risk of spills or drips, etc. I'd also like to hear preliminary reports on using Jon's new ConeColor ink and CIS system for the 2400 with specific software-and- paper combinations. Oops: instead of what I wrote below, I should have asked about how exactly users top up the Cone "reservoirs" (not its carts).

Carl; The adjustment program is available from 2manuals.com, costs about $10.00 The SSC is free-and covers a lot of printers-the only minor issue being having to install it-and give those annoying Russians your email address. Thanks Steve. I'll give this a try with son's PC and see if the 2400 has any life in it. If so I'll keep it as a backup for my 1800 which continues to perform very well (fingers crossed). Carl

I was going to order these, and then I noticed that they only supply 8 carts in a set. I queried this with them, and was told that you can use the T0598 cart for both photo and matte black. This causes me several concerns. First, if you are going to use both photo and matte black, you are going to need two black cartridges to do the swap. Certainly my set of refillable carts for the 2200 has two empties for black. What have other people been supplied with? Second, how does the printer respond if you give it a cart with a matte black chip but photo black ink? Can you use the printer preference settings to tell it that no, in fact it is the other black ink? If not, this will surely affect your paper choice options. I thought that the amount of ink that the printer driver put down on the paper was influenced by what paper / ink combination it thinks it has. Am I right about this? Paul Butzi has an essay on his experience with HP support at: http://photomusings.wordpress.com/ You'll have to scroll down to HP Support woes. Make sure to read the follow-up in a more recent posting. My reason for mentioning this is that we need to be careful about knee-jerk reactions to having an issue with a specific brand. I'm not a fan of Epson's recent strategy, but I expect that the others would do exactly the same thing if they could.
