I was looking at the features- how does one load up older Fairlight disks? There's no SCSI for series 3, no floppy drive for IIx. Can it read disk image files at least?

Why not create the Fairlight CMI sound as a software instrument and give the tactile over to newer technology such as iPad as a controller. What makes the Fairlight CMI so loved is the sounds and the way they were programmed. Just an idea.

Yeah I keep going back and forth on the cmi. I am hoping it would be good at creating a textural sound with some meat to it. All other synths have a sheen to them. But I feel the cmi has a depth and grit to the sound that makes me interested, but im not sure Im into the price rig
