Julian,

last delivery took *two* months (to Italy: Spain is somewhat nearer to MIS
:-). It must be said that it spanned the Christmas period, so you may expect
it to take a bit less, now.
Anyway, I also had no luck whatsoever with emails to MIS: they must be
overwhelmed. It remains to see if they only answer messages about fatal
errors (i.e. wrong deliveries), and disregard warnings, or if they ignore
emails altogether.

My last order took 2 weeks! this one is slightly complcated too. I sold
a set of new piezo inks for 4 pints of MIS FS, had an email from MIS
saying that the guy had paid for the mis and that the inks were
promptly shipped 22nd of jan, so I shipped the piezo out. I´ll try
calling, but these international calls quickly add to the bill.

Julian & Alessandro;

I have placed about 5 orders with MIS on the web and over the phone.
Each time they promptly sent out the order and I had it in my hands a
few days later. I had them send it to me US Postal Priority mail, a
bargain at around $5 for the shipping. Mind you, I am in the States.
Once they sent the wrong item, I phoned them and they quickly sent a
replacement. I have E-mailed them with questions and those E-mails went
unanswered. So if I have a question now, I just call them.

Re: MIS customer service

I don't think email works in Michigan :-) In my experience anyway.

(According to a very early post I read somewhere, they manage to keep
their prices down (which is great), by not employing/paying staff to
answer email etc.)

Re: [Digital BW] MIS customer service

I have had identical service from MIS as Jeff has had. For some reason,
they don't seem to answer e mails very often, but I've never had any
delays in getting their inks.

MIS would do well to find themselves a European distributor.

(Nij, are you listening?)

Martin,

Last I heard, they had one in PermaJet... thankfully, I think they have
changed their pricing strategy that had an $87usd set of inks selling at
?199gbp.

Funnily enough though, a _long_ time ago, I did send them an email asking
them if they wanted to sell large quantities of ink into the UK and Europe,
but they obviously weren't interested ;)

Well, then I must consider myself lucky.
I have ordered already 5 times some ink and paper from MIS, all the
way to Poland,Warsaw and my order took never more than 10 days.(z
couple of times even within a week!!!)
(Global Priority)
Of course I might run out of my polish luck because I just ordered
some more ink last friday.
About emails: Yes, I wrote them a few times about different things,
and never got an answer. Strange customer service.

Re: [Digital BW] MIS customer service

The problem isn´t mis its the post! You have a choice to europe of
fedex, who declare everything to customs so everything is 30% mor
eexpensive, or global priority which in the past has only taken 2
weeks. The pint bottles I ordered were too heavy so it just went air
post. My only beef is that they charged me extra for global priority
and didn´t tell me that i´d be waiting up to 3 months!!!!!!!!

maybe i should risk a fedex 4oz order... the inks are great though...
one of the things piezo did really well was send you full details of
the order on despatch.

Re: [Digital BW] MIS customer service

All depends on the price... the answer is a euro manufacturer, the
usual straight dollar-to-pound ripoff wouldn´t happen. Not the
resellers fault, just the way things work with the customs and extra
carriage.

'fraid I don't know Julian... I _think_ they were only looking to sell the
VM - as 'Varitone Blax' - a name which IMHO sux.

When I last saw them at the Excel show in London they said they were
actually holding off on release to get some curves made for their papers.
Paul??? Would that be you?

On price, I have the _old_ one here in front of me; ?197.94 for 6*125ml
Varitone Blax. For some reason, I thought I'd seen a reduced price... but in
fact it was a note on prices on Adrian Joyner's review of MIS / Piezo in
DPA - noted as 4 bottles for ?135 (inc vat I think). Probably cheaper for
you to fedex the stuff over ;)

Re: [Digital BW] MIS customer service

I ordered a set of VM quads and a CFS from MIS on 16 February. They were
delivered today, 26 February. That's 9 days to get to the other side of the
world (Brisbane, Australia). I asked them to use USPS airmail, which they did.
Postage was US $20.30.

(Hey Piotr, maybe I have some of that Polish luck too).

yeah i know.... i just wish they´d told me they couldn´t ship GP ( and
not charged me for something i didn´t get) if i´d known it was going to
be 60 days before i could even track it I´d have gone with fed ex.
great inks but less than forthcoming with what they are doing... i need
inks now, so I guess i´m going to have to stump up for another order
and fed ex... or i could always reinstall the piezo inks

Nij,

You have to call. I know it is a steep cost but that might get you going
with them. According to Paul they are a very small outfit. I think he said 3
or 4 people in a garage. They are probably being overwhelmed with e-mail.
Maybe Paul could get their attention for you?

Actually, there is info on their web site about becoming a dealer of
their products.

Martin,

You wrote:

Yes.

>I know it is a steep cost ...

In the U.S. the 800 number is great.

I have alerted MIS about the problem (by e-mail, and I received no
response). I'll alert MIS of this general thread again.

European distribution just has not materialized the way I would have
expected. I have not had discussions with MIS about it, but the Permajet
people have not been aggressive in pursuing the curves. Maybe distribution
from the U.S. is so -- at least potentially -- more efficient in this
internet age, that serving a little B&W niche market is not enough for them
to get excited about.

I did, by the way, get some of Permajet's paper. The Permajet Museum
Classic seemed like it was real competitive in quality, though I don't know
the price. It seemed to print well with the default EAM profile.

The fact that the 1290 takes different curves is probably one thing that is
slowing things. Permajet might want to put some of it's time into seeing if
the 1280 curves can be run on the 1290.
