FINALLY figured it out, by accident!! :) Checking that all of the chips were properly seated in their sockets, I noticed that the surface mount 1k tempco resistor was MISSING from the miniature piece of PCB that I'd soldered it and the wires onto! :O :O I soldered on a new one, a

Which PAiA VCO are you using? The older ones (pre 9700 series) only put out about 1/4 Volt peak-to-peak, which is not enough to get past the diodes. You need a couple of volts output swing to drive a diode ring modulator, or nothing will come out. BTW, you can interchange one of
