Dave is right--the 1v/8va is a VCO control and won t help you with tuning per se. I ve thought about getting a cheapie tuner and mounting it onto an MOTM panel

Hmmm, I don t think so. The 1V/Oct standard describes a rate of change in pitch, not an absolute voltage per frequency. There s no notion of 3.64V = A440 .
