Just a thought. Are you connecting it to input no. 1? Input no. 1 is the only one that can be configured for the HH pedal. See Page 12 of the reference guide.

Tony, this should help ... only thing which would stop it from working with your DTXpress is the midi setup button. you can use Yamaha UX16 usb/midi interface
