Sarah, ... According to Epson, all their desktop printers (including R2400) resample images to 720ppi in the driver. Large format printers (3000 upwards)

I have a C88+ and just made three black-only prints on Photo Rag for a print exchange. They came out great -- no banding at all. I am using the Epson OEM inks.

No, your not blind. Epson hides this option. So here s how I get to it. From Photoshop I select Print w/Preview, after checking the settings I select Print.

Yes, the C88 does black only, but the quality can be rather bad. It may depend on the individual printer, but on mine it was not what I consider photo quality

Jules, Some developers stain emulsion selectively, which does with certain images sometimes increase shadow detail. As well, stain tends to conceal grain
