I think the A106 sounds pretty good. It can sound thin and tinny, but it also get's plenty fat and weighty. The A106 can also sound downright crazy and untameable. I imagine the vactrol filters sound pretty hefty as well. Bryan

Hi Dennis, I avoided Doepfer because I thought the filters sounded too clean, but that changed last year after some new models were introduced. The A101-1 Steiner/Vactrol VCF is fat and warm, so is the A 106 MS20 vcf. Those are my faves and I'm sure there are others worth looking
