You need a MIDI port for your computer in order to communicate with it via MIDI. Many computers that have a joystick port built into their soundcard already

Use the slicer effect. It is tempo/pattern based gate fx with a handful of settings to control its behavior. It is just like the slicer on the MC505/SP808/GT3.
