In my experience this happens when something jams the head and some kind of clutch mechanism in the printer is forced to disengage. Look for paper jams hidden

Steve, it might have to do with paper weight and mechanical wear. Some have speculated that 2200 (2100) are damaged when heavy papers are fed through the top
