Hi, With QTR, I don t see any way to add a 1 or 2 px frame to the print output (unless I missed something). So I guess I have to add the frame to the image

The main difference with QTR vs the Epson driver is that it uses less color inks -- mostly the grays because that helps in avoiding metamerism. I use a 3800

You could not pick more different printers. 3880 is pigment based ink, 1400 is dye based. In theory the print life is similar. Prints will look different
