If I were you, I would stop messing around with it until I get my hands on a disk. All you need is one disk to get started. Your floppy is probably 100% okay.

It is great indeed to have SCSI and the card reader work properly. The reader that I have is the Microtech 47B external. The only drawback is that it is noisy.
